PRE-WORKSHOP PREPARATIONS

Your paper

The aim of this workshop is to develop your scientific writing skills by working with you, a step at a time, through the process of writing a scientific manuscript from the very beginning. The workshop is aimed at the production of a manuscript suitable for submission to a scientific journal. To do this effectively, you are asked to bring only the data, illustrations, tables and figures and key references you need to write your publication. Please do not bring a draft manuscript that “just needs fixing up”. If you do so, the benefit of the workshop to you will be greatly reduced.

Short Presentation

To add value to this opportunity for you to gain new writing skills, and to also help the trainers develop a clear understanding of the subject matter of the paper you are going to write, we would like you to prepare a short PowerPoint presentation, which you will deliver on the first day of the workshop.
This presentation should have a maximum of three slides and your talk should use the following format:

Slide 1: Your name; and title of the paper you will write at the workshop. On this slide also explain why you did the study, i.e. this slide should address the issue that you were investigating;
Slide 2: Objectives (aims) and/or hypotheses tested;
Slide 3: Key result(s): Focus on the key result from your work and why it is important.

The maximum number of words used on each slide should be 50 and please avoid using complex and detailed Figures or Tables. The time allocated to your presentation is 7 minutes including time for one or two questions, so plan to take 5 minutes only to present your three slides.
